The Insectarium

You've seen bug shows but not like this!

Do you want to do more than merely look at insects in an enclosure?

beyond the beanstalk insectarium

The Insectarium delves further into the world of creepy crawlies. Children will have the opportunity to look at and hold a variety of insects such as giant snails, spiny leaf insects, giant cockroaches, giant millipedes and view others such as spiders, scorpions, centipedes and more!

In this interactive workshop not only will the children come face to face with some unusual creatures they'll learn about their habitat, diet and lifestyles. They'll also get to come together as a team and use their engineering skills to create giant insectariums that they'll play a game in and a smaller insectarium that stays at the service and houses 2 spiny leaf insects!

Using team work and the STEM concept of engineering, children will race to construct an insect enclosure to house 2 spiny leaf insects. The centre gets to keep the fastest team's insect enclosure and 2 spiny leaf insects (seasonal)!

You will extend upon and go beyond the incursion itself as the centre keep and care for these spiny leaf insects. A care plan for the insects can be developed and a world of fantastic mini beasts and their habitats opens its doors for exploration!

*Stick insects are low maintenance pets that you do not need a license to keep and exhibit.

** We provide you with the equipment needed to care for the insect, all you need to do is give them fresh gum leaves.
