Workshop Information

Welcome to Beyond the Beanstalk's Sunny Side Up! workshop, where children aged 2-5 and 5-12 embark on an enlightening journey into the world of solar energy. Designed to captivate and educate, this workshop offers a hands-on exploration of how solar energy works and its practical applications. Overview: In the Sunny Side Up! workshop, children will delve into the fascinating realm of solar energy, discovering how sunlight can be converted into heat and stored for future use. Through interactive activities and engaging experiments, they will learn about the power of the sun and how it influences various forms of energy. Engaging Activities: Solar Robots: Children will race solar-powered robots using powerful torches. This activity highlights how solar energy can drive mechanical movement and fosters an understanding of renewable energy sources. DIY Solar Oven: In small groups, students will construct their own solar ovens. By assembling segments with dark, reflective aluminium and a transparent "window," they learn how solar energy is harnessed and utilised to cook items. Test That Heat: Using heat guns, children will investigate how different materials, colours, and sizes affect heat absorption. This experiment demonstrates the principles of thermal energy and material science. DIY Suncatcher: Each child will create a suncatcher to be cooked in their solar oven. This creative project ties together their learning, allowing them to see the effects of solar energy on their handmade creations. Curriculum Integration Sunny Side Up STEM Workshop is carefully crafted to align with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), My Time, Our Place (MTOP), and the Australian Curriculum. Our activities and resources are designed to meet educational standards while providing an exciting and interactive learning experience.
