What happens when the weather puts our world to the test?

Above the Beanstalk takes children beyond simply talking about the weather and gets them exploring what it actually does.

Through hands-on STEM investigation, children discover how changing weather conditions can affect the natural and built world around us. They’ll explore the relationship between weather, materials and structures while thinking like scientists and engineers — predicting, testing ideas, problem-solving and discovering what happens when conditions change.

Why do some structures cope better with wild weather than others? How can the choices we make when designing and building help us respond to the environment around us?

Above the Beanstalk encourages children to ask questions, investigate possibilities and use STEM thinking to find solutions.

Along the way, they’ll explore concepts spanning weather, forces, engineering, materials and sustainability — without even realising how much science they’re learning.

Learning that goes beyond the workshop

Above the Beanstalk develops more than science knowledge. Children are encouraged to observe, predict, experiment, communicate their ideas and adapt their thinking when something doesn't behave quite as expected.

The workshop supports learning across science, engineering and sustainability while encouraging curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving.

Experiences can be adapted to suit different ages and learning stages, making Above the Beanstalk suitable for early learning, primary schools and OOSH.
