Overview:
In the Sunny Side Up! workshop, children will delve into the fascinating realm of solar energy, discovering how sunlight can be converted into heat and stored for future use. Through interactive activities and engaging experiments, they will learn about the power of the sun and how it influences various forms of energy.
Engaging Activities:
Solar Robot Races: Children will power miniature robots using high-intensity solar torches, observing how light is transformed into motion. This hands-on activity introduces the exciting science behind solar energy and sparks curiosity about renewable power and engineering design.
Heat Detectives: Using infrared temperature guns, students will test how different colours affect heat absorption. By comparing temperatures of various materials under light, they’ll explore real-world applications of thermal energy and deepen their understanding of heat, colour, and material properties.
Light Play with Suncatchers and Mirrors: Children will experiment with mirrors and ready-made suncatchers to explore how light moves and reflects. By redirecting beams of light, they’ll uncover fascinating concepts like reflection, refraction, and how colour and transparency influence what we see.
Solar-Inspired Art: In this creative station, students will harness sunlight to create one-of-a-kind artworks. By combining light, shape, and natural materials, they’ll explore the hidden effects of UV rays and leave with a personal piece that captures the power of the sun in a visual way.
