Risk Assessment

Hazard: Mini Projector

Risk: Children may misuse the mini projector, potentially causing eye strain or other injuries.
Control Measures:

Only Beyond the Beanstalk staff will set up the mini projector.
Ensure the projector is used in a well-lit environment to reduce eye strain.
Supervise children closely during projector use and intervene if misuse is observed.

Person Responsible: Workshop facilitators and supervising adults.
Risk Likelihood: Low to moderate, with proper instruction, supervision, and environment setup.

Hazard: Choking or Swallowing of Small Parts

Risk: Small parts of the equipment, such as plastic dinosaurs or fossil fragments, may pose a choking hazard if ingested by children.

Control Measures:

Ensure all equipment used in the workshop is age-appropriate and free from small, detachable parts.
Supervise children closely during activities involving small objects.
Educate children about the importance of not putting objects in their mouths.

Risk Likelihood: Low, with proper supervision and age-appropriate equipment.

Hazard: Sharp Objects

Risk: Equipment such as fossil fragments or tools used for fossil excavation may have sharp edges, posing a risk of cuts or puncture injuries.

Control Measures:

Ensure all sharp objects are handled with care and stored safely when not in use.
Provide safety instructions on handling sharp objects.
Supervise children closely during activities involving sharp tools or materials.

Risk Likelihood: Low to moderate, with proper handling and supervision.

Hazard: Allergic Reactions

Risk: Some children may have allergies to materials used in the workshop, such as plastic or food dye, leading to allergic reactions.

Control Measures:

Obtain information about children's allergies prior to the workshop.
Avoid the use of materials known to trigger common allergies whenever possible.
Have appropriate first aid measures in place in case of allergic reactions.
